Summer Summary

At the beginning of summer I promised to read 15 books at San Jose State Library. I didn't complete 15 books, but I got half way there. My little brother, Alex, and I had fun this summer fishing and catching crayfish. I nicknamed him, "CrawDaddy." He caught some huge crayfish at Stevens Creek Park this year, just using hotdogs on a stick. And we did a lot of fishing at Los Gatos Creek Park in Campbell with friends and our cousins. I had fun at various camps,
sleepovers, playdates. I stayed in touch with friends. We didn't really travel anywhere special. Just to the beach and San francisco a few times.

I learned to boogie board and had fun at the beach by the Crow's Nest in Santa Cruz. I met some new friends. I don't like body surfing as much as boogie boarding, but it's pretty fun, too. I talked with my Dad a lot and he says I need to work on writing and problem solving more, based on the STAR test. So, my summer blog is done. The other day we went to Game Stop to sell 8 games because I wanted a new DS game, Legend of Starfy. It's like Kirby. I had to choose between a store credit or cash for twenty percent less. We talked this over and it seems complicated. I finally decided to take cash from GameStop and buy the new DS game from ToysRUs, because their price was five dollars less. He said that comparing prices is an important skill to learn because people do it a lot when they buy things, especially in business. We talked it over a lot. My Mom said later it really didn't make any difference. The only difference was the amount of sales tax. I learned about sales tax. It's 9 percent. And I know what a percent is. Nine percent of thirty five dollars is three dollars and fifteen cents. Nine percent of thirty dollars is two dollars and seventy cents. It's not a huge difference, but I learned what it means.

I went to Samuel's house to spend the night. He moved to South San Jose. We went swimming, and the next morning played hide and seek. There were four other kids there. My Dad picked me up at 10:30 so we didn't get to play that much.

What Boy Scouts Means To Me

Boy scouts teaches mostly about survival and how to survive in nature. It is also teaching me to have respect for symbols. The Boy Scouts and the Cub Scouts of America teach kids how to cooperate with each other to get things done. Our den leader has taught us that when we are in the wild we need to make use of what is at hand and available.

Book report #7 - "Crabs and Mollusks" by Brenda Ralph Lewis

This was about crustaceans. Not all crustaceans are scavengers. Many hunt for their food. For example, the Arrow Crab sticks its nose through its prey to kill it. It stabs. Also, some crabs are translucent, just like ghost shrimps...you can see right through them.

Book Report #6 - "Pokemon Giratina and the Sky Warrior"

Written and illustrated by Makoto Hijioka.

This book is about a boy named Ash and his companions Brock, Dawn, Pickachu and Piplup.

He finds a pokemon called Shaymin, who knows a move called seed flare. It lets pokemon go to the reverse world. Shaymin and the others travel to a world that sustains the real world. It is called Reverse World. There is a powerful pokemon called Giratina. Giratina can travel through both worlds, freely between the two but an evil person named Zero stops Giratina from travelling freely. He wants to sacrifice Giratina to copy its abilities onto a machine. They also meet a man named Newton Graceland. Zero and Newton once worked together, but Newton understood that it is not right to sacrifice a pokemon just for research. Newton helps Ash on his quest to defeat Zero. Zero forces Shaymin to use seed flare so that Giratina can get to the real world...so that Zero can capture Giratina. Newton tries to stop this, but he's too late. Giratina
almost dies. Then Zero goes to the reverse world and makes a glacier move. An ancient pokemon called Reggigas awakens. Reggigas and some Mamoswine try to stop the glacier from ruining a town. Giratina destroys Zero and heals the reverse world. The glacier returns to normal. Regigigas goes back to sleeping and the Mamo Swine leaves.

I started Cub Scout Camp at Stevens Creek Park on Monday. I wanted Collin to be in my Den, but he wasn't. My favorite part of the day at camp is shooting BB guns and arrows. Of my group I hit the targets the most. I really like Ben Swanson. He's in my group. I think we're planning to have a sleep over. He's cool.

On Wednesday I went to the beach and learned to Boogie Board. Afterwards my Dad took us to Pet Smart and bought a filter for our crab tank. We bought a new little crab and put him in the smaller tank. It is red clawed. It's different than the other crab because it needs some dry land. I piled up some pebbles in the small tank. I have still been going to swimming lessons and I'm level 5. Thursday morning very early my Mom noticed my crayfish was gone. We searched all over, but couldn't find it. It must have jumped out, but it's pretty strange.
